This photo was taken in a garden at my house. It has many compositional elements such as the rule of thirds, since the left third has negative space, another compositional element. This photo was taken with a relatively fast shutter speed and a shallow depth of field, causing the background to blur. This photo brings to light the natural beauty found in the structure and simplicity of the flower.
Photo Two
This photo was taken outside of the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston, Massachusetts. The leaf in the center creates a focal point and the stems witch leaves around it create a path for the viewers eye to follow. This photo has a shallow depth of field and fast shutter speed that creates a sharp and crisp picture. Like the previous photo, this photo also emphasizes the beauty found in nature.
Photo Three
This photo was taken in a studio setting. Ping pong balls were thrown at Faye in order to create an interesting composition that also created negative space between the contrast of the white ping pong balls and the black backdrop. The rule of thirds is also present by having Faye positioned to the right of the frame. There is a moderate shutter speed, most of the balls were in focus but some on the left began to blur. The white balance was set at fluorescent since the photo was taken inside using studio lighting. This is a fun and playful photo that further emphasizes Faye's bubbly persona.
Photo Four
This photo was taken of Sarah in a studio setting. There are different values that creates contrast. There is also symmetry created by the shadow that forms a line on her nose separating the two sides of the photo. This photo was taken with a fast shutter speed that creates a sharp and clearly focused photo. The white balance was set on fluorescent since it was taken in studio lighting. The photo has a mysterious quality about it due to the dramatic shadows on one side of her face.
Photo Five
This photo was also taken of Faye during our Painting with Light assignment. The composition includes the rule of thirds by having the placement of Faye's to the left. The sort of ghostly trail that comes from her face develops leading lines that move your eye across the photo. The photo was taken with a very slow shutter speed to allow the light trail to form. It was also taken using a tripod in order to keep the photo focused on the one light that was moving. This photo possesses a sort of eerie quality that reminds me of a ghost, in a mysterious and evil way.
Photo Six
This photo was taken at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston. The lines of the windows creates leading lines that creates a sense of movement in the composition. These lines that move across the photo develops a depth within the photo, almost seeming like its never ending. This photo was taken with a fast shutter speed that allowed the photo to come out clear. The white balance was set for an outdoor cloudy setting since the walkway this was taken in was in natural light. This photo has a very clean and precise mood that shows the modern architecture of the building and the simplicity in the color and shapes found in it.
Photo Essay
The photos in my essay are of the daffodil fields in Dartmouth, MA. I went there because I really enjoy the spring and I've always wanted to go and see the fields. The essay represents the elements in nature since each photo was taken in the fields which are filled with flowers which are pieces of nature. I chose to put the ends as both of the photos that focused on feet/legs and the rest I arranged so that the composition varied from close up to far away. All of the photos were taken in the daylight therefore the white balance was on sunny, the ISO was on 200. In the first photo I took the photo at a downwards angle in order to capture my sister's feet. The second photo was also taken at a downwards angle as well as the 9th and last. In the 4th as well as the 7th image I used the manual focus in order to create a depth of field. The 5th, 6th, and 8th images were all taken at a straight on angle which showed the foreground, middle ground, and background.
